We fully embrace Old Homosassa with its small town, Old Florida vibe. These are some of our favorite places and ways to spend time.

Everything described below starts at Monkey Island and continues along the water to Wild Sassa.

Florida Cracker: https://www.flacracker.com/hom...

Florida Cracker Monkey Bar is an open-air two-story bar that serves food, and our favorite thing to order is their blue crab dip, followed by one of their pizzas. They have a full bar, plus frozen regular and strawberry margaritas. Another favorite drink is the "Real Housewives of Homosassa" if you like strawberry flavor. Isn't that funny? This place is open afternoons - nights. They sometimes have live music. There's corn hole in the yard. There's an ice cream truck out back.

The really big deal about this place is that it overlooks the river and Monkey Island! You have to see it to believe it. It's a super cute island inhabited by three adorable spider monkeys. Hang out at the Monkey Bar and enjoy watching their antics.

Florida Cracker Kitchen (for breakfast) is one of our favorite places for breakfast. Be aware that they only accept cash, but when they make change, they do so in $2 bills! They're also open for lunch. Florida Cracker Trading is the gift shop attached to the Florida Cracker Kitchen. It's a must - visit.

Wild Sassa (for lunch) is sort of a permanent food truck located along the river. They serve absolutely delicious and popular dishes like stone crab chowder, shrimp tacos, and so much more. They buy their  seafood fresh each Thursday and cook until they run out, which may or may not last until Sunday. You order at the window and sit at small surrounding tables. There's a calm, relaxed atmosphere here, and you can wander along the river and see the fishing and shrimp boats. You can also stop by Mary's fresh seafood market right there on the water.

MacRae's is also a generational mainstay in the community. Besides operating a motel, bait shop, and offering fuel for boats,  they have an open-air bar and restaurant that sometimes features live music. They typically play rock music. They're located on the water beside by the boat ramp. Fun fact: they operate a live cam that can be very entertaining at times!

Directly across the river from the Florida Cracker Resort and MacRae's, you'll find Crump's Landing. We love going there for lunch, snacks, or dinner. As of 12/2024, they are still recovering from significant hurricane damage but are still open. Be sure to ask for a table down on the water. Or sit at the bar and dining area in the upper tiki bar area.
